Why flat fee matters

Most construction recruiters charge 20–25% of first-year salary. Which means they earn more the more you pay.

We don't. We charge one flat fee, published up front, that doesn't change when the compensation does. So we have no reason to talk a senior estimator's package up — we're simply trying to find you someone who prices work accurately and gets bids out the door.

And we can charge less without doing less. Goodwork is an AI-native agency: automation carries the volume — sourcing, parsing, scheduling, first-pass scoring — while our recruiters spend their hours where judgement actually matters, on screening calls, assessment design and the shortlist. Every campaign still gets around 100 hours of human recruiter time. It just goes further, and the price reflects that.

Typical construction recruiter

  • 20–25% of first-year salary
  • Generalists who don't know the trade
  • Places the hire and moves on
  • 90-day guarantee
  • Pricing on request

Goodwork

  • AI-native process, human judgement
  • Flat fee, not a % of compensation
  • Tested on real takeoffs and bid packages
  • Same fee whatever the compensation
  • 6-month guarantee
  • Prices published on this page

Our fees. Flat either way.

These are what we charge to run the search and place the hire — a one-time flat fee, not a percentage of their compensation and not the compensation itself.

Remote offshore

Our fee

From USD $2,000

~2–6 weeks · guarantee varies by tier

From a pool of 700,000+ vetted professionals. Takeoffs and pricing are done from drawings on a screen — this is where most contractors should start.

Local

Our fee

From USD $9,000

~6 weeks · 6-month guarantee

North America, UK, Australia and the EU. For work that needs site walks, local code and permit knowledge, or face-to-face relationships with GCs and suppliers.

Recommended path: Start offshore. Takeoffs and pricing are screen work, and the pool is far larger. Go local when the role needs site visits or in-market code knowledge.

Optional

The Goodwork Accelerator

If you want it, we also run post-hire training that keeps your quality guarantee active for as long as your estimator is enrolled. Three tracks: AI & Automation, EOS, and Performance. A separate monthly subscription per hire — most clients hire without it.

The process

Rigorous. End-to-end. Quality guaranteed.

A missed quantity or a stale material price costs you the job — or worse, wins it at a loss. So we test the work: a real quantity takeoff from drawings, material and labour pricing, and a bid package build, with assessments built to be AI-resistant. What you're seeing is the candidate's ability, not a chatbot's.

1

A rich application built for your role — CV, LinkedIn, role-specific written questions, and language and communication samples. Every applicant answers the same questions so you can compare fairly.

2

Every application is reviewed. Our team builds a shortlist and actively advocates for strong candidates you might have passed over.

3

A 20-minute video screening call with every shortlisted candidate — professionalism, communication, compensation alignment, and anything that didn't come through in writing.

4

Your interviews, coordinated by our team — on-site or by video, structured with evidence-based guides we provide.

5

A custom practical assessment designed for the role: auto-graded take-home test with anti-AI safeguards, or a paid trial. We help design, structure, and coordinate it. Tests evaluate hard skills and the soft skills that matter for the role. Local candidates are compensated for their time.

6

Professional reference checks from past managers. Then an onboarding call from our team before they start.

Common questions

Can't AI just do this?

Some of it, yes — that's the point. What's left is the part that needs a person: deciding what to run, checking what comes back, and knowing when the answer is confidently wrong. That's who we place.

How is this different from a VA?

A VA follows the SOP. This is the person who notices the SOP is out of date. Different tier, different screen, different price.

We've been burned by an AI vendor before.

Fair — most people we talk to have. We're not selling you a tool or a promise. We're placing a person, with a six-month guarantee, and you can start with a paid assessment before committing to anything.

Which estimating roles do you place?

Estimators and senior estimators, takeoff specialists, bid coordinators, and estimating assistants — for general contractors, electrical, mechanical and specialty trades. We match the profile to what you bid on and how you bid it.

Can a remote estimator really do takeoffs?

Yes. Quantity takeoffs, material and labour pricing, and proposal assembly are all done from drawings on a screen — the work travels. Site walks, permit knowledge and supplier relationships are where local matters, and plenty of contractors split it that way.

Do candidates know our estimating software?

We test for it. Tell us what you run and working knowledge of it becomes part of the practical assessment, so there's no learning curve to discover after they start.

How do you test estimating ability?

A real quantity takeoff from drawings, material and labour pricing, and a bid package build — scored for accuracy, not speed. A missed quantity or a stale price is the difference between winning a job and winning it at a loss.

How is this different from a construction recruiter?

Most charge 20–25% of first-year salary, which means they earn more the higher the package they negotiate. We charge a flat fee that doesn't move. We also publish our prices, which almost nobody does.

What does the flat fee cover?

Everything: the search, the full vetting process, shortlist delivery, reference checks, and the guarantee. Nothing scales with compensation.

What's the guarantee?

Six months on local and custom searches. If the hire doesn't work out in that window, we run the search again. Most construction recruiters guarantee 90 days.

How long does it take?

Remote Ready-to-Hire is around two weeks. Custom remote searches and all local searches are around six weeks.

Tell us what you bid on. We'll find the estimator.

Flat fee, not a percentage of compensation. Six-month quality guarantee.
